My Story
I completed a ICF accredited coaching certification course at the New Zealand Institute of Coaching in 2021. It came with a new insight. Rather than simply handing out generic advice, I have come to value the importance of active listening and being present.
I started my career as a political advisor in 2008. I learnt how important trust is for meaningful conversations while working for an MP in the German Parliament. Six years later I became a team leader at a consultancy firm. My academic background of politics and languages differed to that of my colleagues and I discovered the importance of using my intuition when working with people. In 2016, I was lucky to have been given the opportunity to work and live abroad. Now, with a family, this has become a fully-fledged adventure with many ups, and a few downs. Settling in a new country was tough in the beginning and small things like picking up the phone to make a doctor’s appointment suddenly turned out to be a challenge. It took me a while to feel comfortable communicating in English, and it became even clearer to me how useful observation is for understanding situations.
Personally, I find joy in spending time with my family and my friends. I am interested in other people’s stories and like to ask questions. And something I have always loved to do is rearrange the furniture in my living space. I guess it gives me new perspectives.
I am grateful to be able to use my experiences to help others as a coach - not by giving advice but to understand what they are really talking about and how they feel.
